More about Pilates
Joseph Pilates (1800-1967) created this unique, safe, and effective method of exercise that creates long, lean, strong muscles. His conditioning method helped rehabilitate patients in an English hospital during World War I. By taking springs from under a hospital bed and using them for resistance work, bed-bound patients regained strength with remarkable results. In 1926, Pilates moved to New York City and introduced his conditioning method to dancers and prizefighters.
To serve as many people as possible, he developed a series of mat exercises that could be performed without any equipment and still accomplish the same benefits of improved body strength and flexibility. Now, professional athletes, elite dancers, and Hollywood celebrities are using Pilates to reach their fitness goals. So can you!
